  • In summer of 2021 the Florida State Legislatures unanimously voted to fund conservation in the Wildlife Corridor which runs north to south through the entire State of Florida. $100 million from State funds and $300 million from American Rescue Plan Act (Covid funds) were approved for protecting land.

  • The Wildlife Corridor runs through Volusia County and approximately 50% has been preserved. The Volusia Forever Land Conservation program, purchased much of the land during its first twenty years from 2000-2020. Volusia County residents voted to pass the Volusia Forever program by 75% in 2020 for another 20 years.

  • Nearly half the land in the Wildlife Corridor in Volusia County IS NOT in conservation. There are areas fractured. These land conservation programs are based on willing sellers. Volusia County residents must become engaged to successfully achieve the maximum amount of conservation by spreading the word of the programs.

April 13th, 2022

On Wednesday April 13, 2022, by invitation only, we attended the Florida Wildlife Summit in Orlando FL. The Summit was a statewide conference educating on the plan for saving the corridor with like-minded people from a wide range of varied backgrounds. In order to save the Wildlife Corridor in Florida it will take activist, economics, governments, landowners, scientist, and tourism. Volusia County Chair Jeff Brower was the only councilman in the State of Florida to attend. We are proud to have been a part of the Volusia delegation. Volusia County is moving forward with Volusia Forever and Florida Forever funds purchasing land for conservation.

January 6th, 2022

On January 6, 2022, DREAM GREEN VOLUSIA requested the Volusia County Council and staff to fast- track pursuit of the following:

Bring the Wildlife Corridor Coalition to Volusia County for a presentation.

Pursue locating willing sellers now before funding disappears.

Review the land use code within the corridor and across Volusia County, the water recharge areas within the corridor, the Volusia County water plan within the corridor (and across the county).

On January 26,2022, the Volusia Forever Committee reviewed 24 properties located in Volusia County for conservation. Sixteen were deemed eligible for purchase. The next committee meeting is on March 10.2022 to prioritize an A list and B List. Not all properties were located in the corridor.

We will continue to advocate for:

  • Impact fees to be increased in all of Volusia County

  • Low Impact Development

  • Stopping the sprawl in the Wildlife Corridor

We are pleased to support the launch of the Volusia Wildlife Corridor Pledge for elected officials and candidates in our county.

Volusia County is bringing Jason Lauritsen, the Director of the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation here to give a public presentation on the corridor. He gave a private presentation at the Tiger Bay Club during February and DREAM GREEN VOLUSIA attended. We will publish the date as soon as it is available. The workshop will be open to all.
